Tank update – less light, more pearling!

Posted: April 9th, 2007 | Author: grey_fox | Filed under: Oldies - post of yester-year! | No Comments »

Sorry for the lack of updates.

I’ve been rather busy with work ever since coming back to work from the 1 week in-camp-training. Anyways, as mentioned in my earlier post. I have made several amendments to the tank and now, with this in place, it seems that the flora are doing much better.

After a week of enjoying myself, I’m back, facing reality. :(

I’ve updated a bit of my tank as well. I’ll update shortly with a post.

CO2 reactor confusion.

I’ve changed the layout of my external CO2 reactor’s position and hopefully now, the CO2 dispersion and breakdown will be better.

At just 2 bubbles-per-second (BPS) in the bubble counter, the pH reading from the ADA drop checker was showing 6.4 to 6.6 which was a bit ridiculous. My previous layout was probably inefficient and instead of breaking down the CO2 bubbles, I was merely wasting the CO2.

Ridiculous weather = Jebao fan.

Posted: March 19th, 2007 | Author: grey_fox | Filed under: Oldies - post of yester-year! | 1 Comment »

I just purchased a four-blade Jebao cooler fan for my tank. The weather has lately been ridiculously warm & humid. The current temperature of my tank is now at 28.3 degrees celcius.

With the fan, I expect a drop of at least 2~4 degrees celcius.

Teo’s plant farm visit.

I went down to Teo’s with my wife & her colleague. (I’m sure Don was excited to see all the different plants :) ) Located at the end of Singapore, Teo’s plant farm is a must visit for the aquascaper. Have a wide range of varieties that most LFS won’t have. I purchased a total of 5 different plants.

Here’s a photo of what my purchase.

I’ll be taking a visit down to Teo’s plant farm (over at Lim Chu Kang – which happens to be at the other end of where I’m currently living at) tomorrow with a friend and hopefully with my wife too. I’ll update you guys with the purchases that I will get.

Currently on my mind are the following purchases.

1. Japanese hairgrass
2. Bolbitis
3. and whatever I might want to get. :P

I’ll post up photos of my purchases.

Formerlly known as Microrasbora sp ‘Galaxy’, now as Celestichthys margaritatus.

Posted: March 13th, 2007 | Author: grey_fox | Filed under: Oldies - post of yester-year! | 3 Comments »

I just purchased 10 microrasbora sp. Galaxy from a local LFS and planning to breed them in time to come. Recently there was an article by practicalfishkeeping (UK) on the microrasbora sp. ‘galaxy’ coming to extinction due to over-collection since its first discovery in early 2006.

I will be posting more on the celestichthys margaritatus and hopefully will take a photo of two of them.

Check back to see if this article has been updated. If possible, it would be good if the microrasbora galaxies can be home bred.
